Homes for Sale in Levittown

Levittown is part of the Hempstead Township and is of very important historical significance. Levittown came about as Abraham Levitt and his sons began building rental homes for the veterans returning home post WWII. Levittown was created as a planned community and helped to define the era of homebuilding in the 1950’s with homogenous communities focused on quick turnarounds and efficiency. Levittown proved that mass-production was a viable technique that could be exploited in the home-building business and helped to provide cheap housing for millions of soldiers. Today, Levittown has a large population of about 52,000 individuals with a median income of $93,815 based on 2012 figures. Women entertain a slight majority in Levittown making up just over 51% of the population.

Levittown has a very distinguished school district; it received an overall score of ‘good standing,’ for the 2013-2014 school year, meaning it has adequately met criteria set forth by the New York State Department of Education for the year. All 10 schools in the district received this score for the 2013-2014 year, and General Douglas MacArthur High School garnered additional honors as a ‘reward school.’ This designation means that the school has made great strides and improvements in a multiplicity of categories over the past year. If that is not impressive enough, 3 schools within the district were ranked by Newsweek as in the top 2000 public high schools in the United States. Ranked at 779 was Island Trees, followed by Division Avenue High School at 939, and finally General Douglas MacArthur High School at 1212. These schools excel in more than academics, too; this past year, Division Avenue High School’s varsity baseball team won their 13th Class A County Championship!
